In a heart-wrenching incident that has sent shockwaves through the travel community, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has reported the loss of two tourists and their guide who were attacked along Katwe Road in Nyamunuka.

The victims’ identities, though withheld, include a Ugandan national, a UK citizen, and a South African citizen, all travelling with Gorilla and Wildlife Safaris, a local tour company.

The incident unfolded when the three individuals, who were enjoying the enchanting beauty of Uganda’s natural wonders, fell victim to a heinous act by unknown assailants. The perpetrators not only assaulted the victims but also set their vehicle ablaze, leaving the travellers with little chance of escape.

UWA responded swiftly to the incident, alerting the Uganda Police Force and other security agencies who are working diligently to piece together the events that led up to this tragic occurrence and to identify those responsible. The safety and security of tourists visiting the country’s protected areas have always been of paramount importance to UWA.

“Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims, and we stand with them in their grief during this difficult time,” said a UWA spokesperson. The loss of these lives serves as a grim reminder of the risks that tourists, as well as those who work in the tourism industry, sometimes face while exploring the world’s natural wonders.

As investigations are underway, UWA urges the public to exercise patience and refrain from spreading unverified information. The collaborative effort of the community in allowing the investigative process to run its course is vital in bringing those responsible for this senseless act to justice.

Despite this tragic event, all of Uganda’s national parks remain open to visitors. UWA is continuing to work closely with other security agencies to ensure the safety and security of all those who venture into the country’s protected areas. The tourism industry, a vital component of Uganda’s economy, has been resilient in the face of past challenges, and this incident highlights the need for strengthened security measures in these pristine natural havens.
